Guindy National Park - Snake Park - Children's Park


Guindy National Park, a 2.82 km² (1 sq mi) Protected area of Tamil Nadu, located in Chennai, South India, is the 8th smallest National Park of India and one of the very few national parks situated inside a city. It has a good number of Black Bucks, Civet Cats, Jackals, Spotted Deer, Mongoose and Monkeys. The Black Bucks (Indian antelope) are endangered species.

The Deer Park and the Snake Park are supported by the World Wildlife Fund. They are located in the Raj Bhavan premises at Guindy, within the city limits. This is the smallest National Park in India. Guindy National Park has about 24 varieties of trees.


This park is house for a large number of Snakes from the deadly King Cobra to Vipers, Python and other reptiles. There are preserved specimens of reptiles in the park and they are a great attraction to the visitors and tourists. There are descriptions for every species of snakes. The Snake Park publishes periodicals.

Adjacent to the Snake Park is the Children's Park. This park has a number of animals and birds and a park for Kids. Different species of animals like Antelopes, Monkeys, spotted deer and Indian Civet cats.

People can visit the park the year around. Guindy National Park attracts about 3 lakh people during a season. The parks are open daily, except Tuesday, 8.30 am to 5 pm.

Situated in Chennai, Guindy National Park is home to various species of animals, birds and insects. The park is taking measures towards the conservation of city's natural heritage.
