Thirumalai Nayak Palace, Madurai

Thirumalai Nayak Palace is situated in the Madurai city, at a distance of approximately 2 km to the southeast of the Meenakshi Temple. The palace was constructed by King Thirumalai Nayak of Tamil Nadu, in the year 1636 and used to serve as his official residence. An Italian architect designed the edifice as per the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. Thirumalai Nayak Palace of India, as we see today, is nothing in comparison to its original structure, which was at least four times bigger in size.

The palace was basically divided into two parts, one of them is known as the Swargavilasa (Celestial Pavilion), while the other is Rangavilasa (Pleasure Pavilion).

Guindy National Park - Snake Park - Children's Park

Guindy National Park, a 2.82 km² (1 sq mi) Protected area of Tamil Nadu, located in Chennai, South India, is the 8th smallest National Park of India and one of the very few national parks situated inside a city. It has a good number of Black Bucks, Civet Cats, Jackals, Spotted Deer, Mongoose and Monkeys. The Black Bucks (Indian antelope) are endangered species.

The Deer Park and the Snake Park are supported by the World Wildlife Fund. They are located in the Raj Bhavan premises at Guindy, within the city limits. This is the smallest National Park in India. Guindy National Park has about 24 varieties of trees.

Velankanni Church - Our Lady of Good Health

Velankanni is termed as the "Mecca of South Asian Christianity". The church is dedicated to our Lady of Good Health. Velankanni Church is popularly called as 'Sacred Arockia Madha Church'. Velankanni is about 350km south of Chennai, on the Coromandel Coast, 12km south of Nagapattinam. It is a famous pilgrimage destination for Christians and also for people of other faiths. Velankanni is one of the most visited pilgrim centers of India.

Our lady chose this place to dispense her miracles to mankind. A strong oral tradition attests to Our Lady’s apparitions at Vailankanni. Hundreds of miraculous cures are reported every year. Vailankanni church was raised to the status of basilica by His Holiness Pope John XXIII in 1962.

Catherine Falls

Catherine Falls, also known as St. Catherine's Falls, is located in the area that surrounds Coonoor. This beautiful waterfall falls from an impressive 250 feet. It can clearly been seen from the top of Dolphin's Nose if seeing the entire waterfall as one total impression is what you are looking for. It is also possible to take a road to the top of the falls. This vantage point allows you to truly appreciate the awesome power that Mother Nature has contained within a waterfall as you look down the 250 feet to the pool of water and its surrounding landscape below.

Marina Beach - Longest beaches in Asia

Marina Beach is among the longest beaches in the world and it comprises of sun, sand and surf. Counted among one of the longest beaches in Asia, it is stretched across a 12-km long area. This beach was given a makeover by Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff in the early 1880's, and is Chennai's major tourist attraction today.

Walk along the beach bordered with a green lawn entice to go on a leisurely stroll. At the intersections of this promenade stand beautiful statues of Tamil scholars, patriots, and noted personalities. The Statue of Labour is a beautiful sculpture depicting the efforts of a team of laborers who are at strenuous, manual work.

Kutralam Water Falls

Kutralam or Courtallam Fall is situated on the Western Ghats in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu, India at a height of about 167 metres. The Chittar River, the Manimuthar River, the Pachaiyar River and the Tambaraparani River develop from this fall. This place is known as "Spa of south" and ooty for poor man. It is devoted to Lord Siva.

Yercaud

Yercaud is a hill station near Salem, Tamil Nadu, India in the Servarayan range of hills in the Eastern Ghats. It is at an altitude of 1515 metres (4969 feet) above the mean sea level. The highest point in Yercaud is the Servarayan temple. Hence the Yercaud hill area is called Shevaroy Hills.

Yercaud has a very pleasant climate. Yercaud is considered to be a poor man’s Ooty, as it is less expensive place than Ootacamund.

Vedanthankal Bird Sanctuary

The term ‘Vedanthangal’ is derived from the Tamil language and it means ‘place of the hunter’. Vedanthankal Bird Sanctuary is a 30 ha (70-acre) sanctuary located in the Kancheepuram District of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The sanctuary is about 75 km from Chennai on National Highway 45 (NH45) south of Chengalpattu.

Vedanthangal sanctuary serves as a nesting home for many species of water birds. Egrets, Grey Heron, Open-billed Stork, Darter, Spoonbill, White Ibis, Night Herons, Grebes, Grey Pelican, Dabchicks, Pintail ducks and Cormmorants are some of the breeding birds that visit the sanctuary.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park - Vandalur Zoo

Arignar Anna Zoological Park, also known as the Vandalur Zoo, is a zoological garden located in Vandalur, a southern suburb 30 kilometers from the city of Chennai, India and 15 kilometers from Chennai Airport.Spread over an area of 1260 acres, it is the largest zoological garden in India and is believed to house more than 170 species of mammals, birds and reptiles in about 81 enclosures.

The zoo is open from 9.00am to 8.00pm all days, except Tuesdays. All the animals, especially the big cats are back in their cages after 5.00pm. So, most tourists prefer to visit these before going on to the other exhibits.

Sri Brihadeshwara Temple - World famous temple
